Hi 'Wardy', you were informed that you can keep the old processor ? Hi Ruud, Apologies for the delay - This comment was in response to Al at a point before you spoke to DGT, I'm certainly aware that we get to keep the old processor now :-) Thanks for clarifying and making the upgrade more attractiv...

Nice work Al!

My Rev goes back to the Netherlands tomorrow for the LED repair but for now I've decided to hang fire on the upgrade. Be interesting to see how you get on with the new processor.

I hadn't appreciated that the old CPU would need to be returned.

I was just wondering if anyone in the EU has had a similar Duty & VAT invoice?

Al.
Sadly it's the norm, and FedEx are red hot on collecting their admin fee so they don't miss much.

Hi Fern,

I've tried Cyrus and Colossus 4 on modern hardware with the speed maxed out and I'd agree they both punch really hard.

Retro regards

I've been a bit poorly in the last week, so only just seen this, I can't see that there is a price anywhere, is the €700 for the upgrade genuine??

If true then I'm thinking it might be the end of line for me and the RevII.

Thanks for playing this out Steve, and on Christmas Day no less. Be interesting to see if it can be tuned out, I suspect it can't, I don't remember King safety being a tunable option which is where I'd guess the issue lays? Nice to see games from the WM, such a rare animal every game is a learning e...

2600 is where I thought the King would land judging by some of the early games against the R30. That's why I thought Steve's WunderMachine would struggle, however that's not the case so far at least..... Looks like a great opponent for club players, the sacrificial style probably hurts the rating ov...

I thought that I would do a brief and rather crude test, with the obvious many caveats, between how quickly the King and the genius modules reach set search depths. Given that they are running on absolutely identical hardware there is some interest in this. I did this by simply playing d4 h5 to get...

I too had wondered about the strength people were estimating versus the step up in hardware with the two elements ( ) not quite balancing in my mind.

I do think there is probably room for optimisation that could make the King even stronger still. Be interesting to watch for sure.

The LED I fixed in my RevII has gone pop, so it's going to head back to the Netherlands in the New Year for a proper repair, and the upgrade if it's at a sensible price. It's extremely unlikely that I'll ever own a R30 so for me I had to go for the Rev emulations, the upgrade will mean that these ru...
