Re: Chessmaster

You can install 9000, 10th Edition and Grandmaster Edition on Window 10 with a little workaround. You have to use compatible mode while installing and running with all exe files. Use administrator mode too. That's it. 9000 (and GM edition) runs just fine under Windows 10 x64 for me, with no workaro...

Re: CP/M chess programs

Hey there! I just came across this post while looking for Chess software to run on my Altair. Do you happen to still have that CPMCHESS.7z file? That nofile website seems to have died a couple years back. Would love to get those programs! :) I do. Try https://mega.nz/file/0IdQwTyL#tbj8dQukQzbVwHbJa...

Same for Sargon 2, really. I would consider this at least a 1980 program, since it was available for home computers like Apple II and TRS80 at this time, although the Spracklens were competing in tournaments with versions of this programs in the late 70s. The C64 version is basically the same progra...

Well, on the Pet system, you are definitely right. But the C64 didn't exist back in 81'... Release for the C64 is unclear: PetChess has been released in 83 under the name Microchess 3 (but it is indeed PetChess , renamed). I found as well information about a 81' so-called PetChess 4000 for the C64?...

Thanks Tibono!!! Really a complete torture for take back a move!... Maybe I will use MYchess for C64 ... there it is easier to use it ... But I'm pretty sure that even using setup to alter the board to a previous position takes less than one hour. Oh, and takeback is cheating ;-) Also, remember tha...

Videopac chess

I came over this ad on a norwegian classified ads site: https://www.finn.no/bap/forsale/ad.html?finnkode=204161752 It's a Videopac G7000 console (aka Odyssey 2) with a bunch of games. One of the games is a chess game, apparently a version of Gambiet 80, also released for the TRS-80. You may not unde...

I would say this is the Sargon 1 that was published by Hayden software as BOOK !!!! Probably, he actually mentioned this idea to me in an e-mail-exchange back in 2016, after I wrote to him about his C implementation of Microchess: Finally, I will mention that I have purchased a second hand book tha...

I don't remember having slowdown issues on my 'real' Amiga, but it was a while ago when I last ran it. Maybe it's a problem with emulated machines, they are not always perfect but useful! That was one of my initial thoughts, but seeing the same problem on different platforms made me puzzled. I also...

I apparently solved it adding a "machine" parameter value in the DosBox config file (DosBox section). Value was previously undefined (line was disabled by a leading #). Some values don't work at all. The working value I kept is machine=svga_s3 (some others work as well) The "machine&...

Battle Chess, sluggish animations

Been playing around a bit with Battle Chess, mostly Amiga and DOS versions. But I have noticed that both versions seem to suffer from some slowdown issues. This is most noticable when moving rooks, queens and bishops. They start moving normally, but as soon as they enter the next square they just fr...
