I suppose you've used .ctg books previously No I haven't. I don't have any CB software. I can't help but feel you were not asking rather trying to make a point that at least I failed to understand. So basically because of this repeated quest for information, you feel I had some alternative motive f...

I suppose you've used .ctg books previously? I don't quite understand what point you're trying to drive or whether you really don't know .ctg books. I wasn't trying to make a point... yet. Mostly, I want to know if I can make use of these .ctg books the way I operate engines. I've already discussed...

Does Junior or Hiarcs support use of the .ctg books using the OwnBook option? If not, these books are useless to me. Deep Junior is a UCI engine so will work in any GUI that supports UCI as will its own internal book. As a bonus you get a brand new ctg opening book written by a GM. I guess I don't ...

Re: Is free Rybka 2.2 a killer for professionnal competitors
Do you think chess commercial programs (and their programmers in consequence) like Hiarcs, Shredder, ... are in danger because of the release of a free of charge Rybka 2.2 version ? It's hard to say. The only data point I can provide is myself. I haven't bought Rybka 3, yet I bought Hiarcs 12. (sti...

I didn't vote since I have never and probably never will visit the playchess engine room. But I have run Hiarcs over on FICS for a while. Assuming that playchess has the same basic flaws for engine play as FICS, then I would say that a non-rybka room probably isn't the answer. The problem isn't rybk...

Yeah, that's worse. Complete waste of time reading it IMO.Harvey Williamson wrote:I thought he was refering to this thread http://hiarcs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1166 where some real testing is being done. This thread I think is based on a few Playchess games and is probably not reliable but its fun.

Why does it need XP SP2 or Vista, GeForce5, DVD, WMP, etc? I might be interested in the UCI version, but if it has exotic needs for a chess engine (needs which won't work in Windows 2000 or Linux under wine) then forget it. I just wanted to say that I bought the MP UCI version, and it works fine in...

For some technical reason I am unable to run 64-bit Rybka with tablebases. It's a linux issue. But on my Q6600 @ 2880, Rybka 2.3.2a finds it in 2:14 with a score of +2.53. Hiarcs indeed finds it faster, but clearly doesn't appreciate its value for much longer than Rybka's 2:14. With tablebases: 2:47...

Re: Hiarcs, Rybka, Fritz, Shredder etc.
Why are these fantastic chess programs all developed by non-Americans? Is it the same reason that there has only been one true World Chess Champion born in the USA? Unlikely. I contend that there will never be another World Chess Champion born in the USA nor will a super chess program be developed ...
