Hi, I think I can answer this one  I made a mistake (actually a couple) making Gideon Pro WB/UCI compatible. Usually mistakes have the tendency going down in elo, not so with this one  elo went up! To make a long story short, I took the then current ProDeo (thus with the WB/UCI software) ...

Re: Mephisto: Polgar = Academy ?
I think the Schröder program lineage is Rebell 5.0 -> MM IV -> Academy -> MM V -> Polgar/Milano -> (Risc) -> Nigel Short. Although similar to the MM IV in playing style, the Academy has the more elegant 8-button UI of the Polgar. The Nigel Short is the Polgar enhanced with some lessons learned deve...

Re: An Open Letter to Cock de Gorter and the CSVN Board
It is very sad that I have to write this letter. Someone I consider a friend has used a cracked version of a product sold by Hiarcs.com in an official tournament . Rather than apologising when confronted about the issue you constructed a way to ban me from the events you organise. I heard a differe...

PS - For a stronger Pro Deo switch learning ON, it was switched off for beta testing but Ed forgot to switch it on in the official release. It's not forgotten. It's just that because Pro Deo 1.6 is a new animal one has to play a few hundred games first and build a new learning file from those games...

Enough is enough. Ed was decades developing chess programs, it is time for him to do something else. When you are around 60 or near that. as I am, you think twice the use of the remaining time you have. Supporting Ed retirement regards fernando You couldn't have said it better old chap. Although it...

kaufmann can IMO say many things. but fact is that zappa has only those chances when it uses 4 or 8 CPU's. with 2 or 1 zappa has no chance against rybka. so rybkas implementation is either not so good or the advantage of rybkas evals is eaten by zappas search progress in scaling from 1 to 8 cpu's. ...

Re: Mexico - Zappa 5.5 v Rybka 4.5- Zappa wins $10,000
Ed,Things are not so simple about search. Hi Uri, 1)When we talk about history based pruning different programmers have different implementation of it and one implementation may be 50 elo better than the second implementation. That's highly unlikely. 50 elo only can be gained by a new fresh idea, l...

Mexico - Zappa 5.5 v Rybka 4.5- Zappa wins $10,000
Hi Ed, Thanks Ed, that is interesting. That article certainly starts to mention some of the stuff I was thinking of. The article I remember (or not so well!) talked about what the testers would say about one program having more knowledge (but really it searched deeper), it mentioned doubled pawns a...
