Re: Odesta 7 again
That C64 version doesn't seem very responsive.. Maybe try the Apple II version?

Re: Odesta 7 again
Hi Fern,
why not play it in the browser? It's the C64 version of Chess 7.0 by Larry Atkins.
https://archive.org/details/Chess_7.0_1983_Odesta
Still, you could also use any C64 emulator and put in the ROM file, easily found on the web.
Steinitz Regards,
Michael

Re: Seeking information on the Krypton Meteor program
The question, who programmed all those clones, is now answered, with a secret key combination, the name is displayed in the LCD (on some Millennium devices.)

Re: Horvath Play Styles
Hi Eric, You are right, the manual is very confusing and inconsistent, messing with White/Black and Opponent/Program. I think you are on the right track explaining these difficult descriptions. When I first read the manual, I thought, the features for both sides (all except F4&F5) will be automa...

Re: Horvath Play Styles
Thanks Eric for explaining :) You were faster than I tried, here: If you have a look at the parameters of the predefined styles, you can see that there really are only 5 styles: 1/9, 2/8, 3/7, 4/6, 5. (The manual says style 1 is very cautious for White / very agressive for Black, style 9 is vice-ver...

Re: Horvath Play Styles
The Horvath weightings are very confusing, but I think I found the formula. The defined styles are symmetric, so how to get the corresponding numbers? (F4 and F5 are only for one side, and seem to be inverted.) 0 <=> 99 2 <=> 40 5 <=> 20 7 <=> 15 10 <=> 10 I tried 100/x first, but hm.. lets take x+1...

Re: Seeking information on the Krypton Meteor program
Selectivity needs chess knowledge, difficult to put in 4 KB ROM and 176 Bytes RAM..
Brute force is much simpler, so the tiny programs work this way, I suspect.
Simple Regards,
Michael

Re: CXG Advanced Portachess: What processor is in it??
Hi, It seems there was a a software revision, from CXG Computachess II to CXG Advanced Portachess. The MCU is the same, HD44840. The older one had rev. A13, still White & Allcock https://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/index.php?title=Hanimex_HCG_1700 https://www.schach-computer.info/wiki/images/6...

Re: Seeking information on the Krypton Meteor program
Hi Brian,
my Tiger Trekker and Krypton Jupiter solve your mate-in-3 problem, but not this one:
Later (>2006, more RAM) Millennium 8-in-1 devices will solve it on the infinite level.
Small and slow brute forcers Regards,
Michael

Re: Seeking information on the Krypton Meteor program
CXG had some Sphinx chess computers with Spanish town names like Granada, Alicante etc. in 1992. I think 72 levels was only a selling argument. And I suspect it could be a Riet Paap model, he once wrote about walking away from Eric White of CXG, maybe he left a prototype behind. I'm not amazed by th...

Re: Seeking information on the Krypton Meteor program
This weak program seems to come from the 4K 68hc05 CXG Sphinx Madrid, 1992, with only 16 Levels to begin with. (Same grouping, actually only 4 Levels, 4s, 30s, 2-3min, 10min (M in 2)). http://alain.zanchetta.free.fr/docs/Misc/CXG_901_Sphinx_Madrid_EN.pdf It also has that awkward position verificatio...

I tried the postition on both Sensory 9's. SC9A: 1m 8s, but believes it's a stalemate :) SC9B: 52s A version with a stronger program won the prize for the Best Commercial entry at the 1983 World Micro Championship, having been launched just prior to that event in the USA, but not on sale in Europe ...
