I discovered the problem. It was a corrupted pgn of a single game. I was able to find the corrupted pgn by starting at game #1 and picking each game in the db until I reached a point where a game would not open in the game window. Then I tried to delete that game but the hiarcs program would not do ...

This is what I've been doing routinely...I search for a particular master game and usually find it at chessgames.com. Then I download a pgn of that game which I open in hiarcs. Then I copy/paste that game into a database that I have created already. I then save the game in the database and begin to ...

saving games to database problem

I created a pgn database of annotated master games but have been having a problem lately when I try to save games to it. The program locks up with a notice that the programs is not responding. The progress bar at the bottom is hung up at 89%. Anyone else have a solution to this problem? I only have ...

Re: hiarcs not responding

I'm having a problem after adding comments or variations to a game. I am able to save the game but when I want to close the database the program posts a 'not responding' message. I'm running the current 1.9.1 version. I only have this problem with one particular database and I know the problem is n...

hiarcs not responding

I'm having a problem after adding comments to a game. I am able to save the game but when I want to close the database the program posts a 'not responding' message. I'm running the currect 1.9.1 version. The program allows me to close a database as long as I haven't added comments or variations. Thi...

saving to database

I've had a recurring problem that started during the past couple or so months. While I am editing a game with notes I've had to save the game after each edit or the program will throw up a message that it could not be saved to the database. I have plenty of room left on my hard drive BTW and I've ha...

Opening books

For some reason I can't access any of the opening books except the Local. Any idea what the problem might be?

mixed-type database files

I am making a new database that is composed of files composed of full game scores as well as files composed of play from various positions. I would like to have the position files show up in the game list pane but since the moves leading up to the position(s) do not have lead-up moves, these files d...

comment dialogue box

I would like to recommend that you add the ability to change the font size in the comment dialogue box. The current font size is too small. Thanks for a very good program that I enjoy immensely!

I hope so. The software is extremely user-friendly and I like everything else about it especially the benefit of having more than one database open at a time.

creating opening book

I would like to create a number of opening books for Hiarcs Chess Explorer and use them in training games. I have stockfish and hiarcs engines. Is this possible and if so could someone instruct me how to do this?

Thanks for the replies. I assumed that since a few of the games I was referring to were between amateur players (less than expert strength) that there was certainly something amiss when the engine did not make suggestions for improvement from about the 3rd move to the 20th move (in one game) and we ...

Hiarcs14Deep analysis

I've been analyzing some of my personal games using a 10 minute per game option. Is this better than using an x-minute per move option? I am thinking that it is since some games are longer than others and I have had some games analyzed that skipped over several middlegame moves without giving any re...
