Can HIARCS (Mac) be made to play itself?

That's it really. Is there an option that would allow me to have HIARCS play itself from a given position?

Feature request: tactics/strategy trainer

I'm surprised that HIARCS doesn't include at least a library of puzzles, so that would be a minimum request. But what I'd really like to see is some sort of intelligent trainer that would focus on tactics and strategy that, if diligently followed, would improve the user's game. Thanks for listening,...

Re: Opening book issue?

Hi, I'm not sure how this happened, but for some reason, Hiarcs is playing as though it doesn't have an opening book. I normally play basic 5 minute games with it. With white, it takes 5-10 seconds to decide on a move. With black, it also hesitates, even with conventional moves from white (e.g., e4...

Please note the installer created a folder in your home Documents folder called HIARCS Chess, in there you will find the Databases, Documentation folders etc. You should have access to write into folders in this location. The solution

D'oh. A simple matter of unlocking the HIARCS databases folder using my system password, and then adding myself to the permissions list, and granting myself read & write permissions.

Cheers!

(now all I have to do is beat this beast)

When you select File->New, do you at least get the "New database" popup window with the "Save As:" prompt? If so, one possibility is that the default save location (indicated by the Where: selection box) is a location where you don't have file write permissions. Just as a quick ...

Can't create new database/Mac OS

I'm running the Mac OS version on a brand new MacBook Pro. The documentation suggests creating a new database to store my games in pgn format. However when I try to create one (File-->New) I get the following error: "Cannot create HIARCS Chess Explorer database". Thoughts? suggestions?
